Michael Housman

Dr. Michael Housman is a technologist and data scientist whose work sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence and human psychology. He’s spent his career leading technology teams at early-stage companies, having architected platforms to hire job applicants, communicate more effectively with customers, catch fraudsters, and transact real estate. His research has been published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals, presented at dozens of academic and practitioner-oriented conferences, and profiled by such media outlets as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Economist, and The Atlantic. Dr. Housman received his A.M. and Ph.D. in Applied Economics and Managerial Science from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and his A.B. from Harvard University.

Understanding the Explosion of Artificial Intelligence: Past, Present, and Future

The recent explosion of artificial intelligence technologies is disrupting entire industries and will completely transform the way we live. But if the algorithms behind many of these advances were developed decades ago, why are we starting to see their impact all of a sudden? In this session, Dr. Michael Housman offers up some insight into why the explosion in artificial intelligence is occurring now, how you can best position your organization to harness the power of these advances, and what the future looks like for the fields of computer vision, natural language understanding and generation, and cognitive computing.

Unpacking the Black Box: How to Leverage Recent AI Advances within your Organization

Advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence are disrupting virtually every industry. Given the exponential pace of these advances, you may be asking yourself: Where is it headed? How can I leverage these advances to improve business outcomes? Where do I even begin? With 15 years of experience helping organizations to transform through the intelligent design of artificial intelligence applications, Dr. Housman lays out a simple framework for identifying problems can be fixed with data science, offers up several examples from his own career of organizations that successfully made the leap, and then leads a working session to help participants “unpack the black box” to identify immediate opportunities for data science to make an impact and walk them through the process of doing so.

Generative AI Experience – Make the pitch with your Idea/product/service (Workshop or Keynote)

You will be guided through a series of prompts using AI software to generate a dynamic launch of a high-impact product. As a group, you will need to work together to allocate tasks and work collaboratively as you follow the step-by-step instructions. This is both an experience AND a competition so be prepared to turn up the performance in the final pitch.

Generative Artificial Intelligence: The Third Wave of Digital Disruption

In the 1990s, we saw the rise of the consumer web completely change the way we produce and consume digital content.  In the 2000s, we saw social media transform the way we share digitized links, images, and videos.  And now, in the 2020’s, we’re in the middle of a third wave of digital disruption as generative artificial intelligence is transforming the way that content is created: images created by DALL-E 2 are photo realistic, ChatGPT can converse intelligently with users about any topic, and Stable Diffusion is creating user avatars.  Given the exponential pace of these advances, you may be asking yourself: Where is generative AI headed? How can I help the companies I engage with to leverage these advances and stay competitive within an constantly evolving landscape? Where do I even begin? With 15 years of experience helping organizations to transform through the intelligent design of artificial intelligence applications, Dr. Michael Housman offers up some insight into how these algorithms work, why the explosion in generative artificial intelligence is occurring now, how you can best position your organization(s) to harness the power of these advances, and what the future looks like for creation of digital art, movies, pictures, books, articles, and other media.  He will also lay out a simple framework for identifying problems can be fixed with these new tools and offer up several examples of organizations that are already making the leap.  He will conclude by leading a working session to help participants “unpack the black box” to identify immediate opportunities for organizations to leverage generative artificial intelligence and walk them through the process of executing against that roadmap.
